We Live in Time’s Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield are ready to make your heart go boom.
The romantic drama’s trailer dropped July 10 and, don’t worry darling, it will surely leave you in tears at the theater.
In the emotional clip, the love story of Tobias (Andrew) and Almut (Florence) unfolds, spanning decades following the night they meet when Almut hits him with her car. They speak for the first time at the hospital, where she admits the real reason she’s present: “I ran you over, sorry.” Tobias responds with a small smile, “It’s all right.”
The accident proves to ignite some sparks between the pair, who share a passionate night together before Tobias debates leaving in the morning. But he doesn’t hesitate to stay when Almut gives him the option to, a decision that changes their lives.
“Whether we like it or not, the clock is ticking,” he says to her. “I am worried that there’s a very distinct and real possibility that I am about to fall in love with you.”
Their relationship—in which they’ve fallen in love, built a home and welcomed a daughter—faces the ultimate test when Almut’s serious medical diagnosis threatens their happy ending.
While reflecting on her medical decisions, Almut, who now has a shaved head, tells Tobias, “I’m not interested in a treatment that accidentally wastes our time.” And when he asks her why she’s taking the risk instead of pursuing treatment, she tearfully explains, “I can’t bear the thought of being forgotten.”
As Almut bears the weight of her diagnosis, Tobias must embark on his own emotional journey while coming to terms with their uncertain future. He admits, “I’m guilty of looking ahead instead of right in front of me, at you.”
With the trailer's release, Florence gushed over the hard work that brought the film to life.
“I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed making,” the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram. “Everyday I went to work appreciative for that experience, grateful for all of those I was working alongside, touched that I was a part of making a story like this. It truly felt like magic.”
