There’s no punch line to this one.
Indeed, TheConjuring Matt Rife really is looking to buy the house in which the true events that inspired The Conjuring horror series transpired.
“I would love to, I’m really trying to,” the comedian exclusively told E! News host Keltie Knight at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards of the possible investment. “I've been there once before, and it's incredible. It's my favorite scary movie franchise by far. I think I could do incredible things with it.” (For a look at all the stars at the 2024 PCCAs, click here.)
While he quipped he might need to host another tour with “4,000 shows in a year” in order to afford the property, Matt had an easy answer to the question of why a comedian might be attracted to such a staple of the horror industry.
“Comedy and horror are one degree of separation,” the 29-year-old noted. “They're both great surprise, right? And I think building the anticipation. Look at what Jordan Peele's done with the horror genre.”
He continued, “Also I love a true story and The Conjuring movies are all based off of true stories if you believe in that kind of stuff, which I do.”
And amid all this movie chatter, Matt hinted there might be some big screen limelight in his future.
“We have a very, very big 2025 coming up,” he teased. “I'm doing a movie with Live Nation based on Rolling Loud, the music festival. And then we have a handful of really fun, big things coming right after that.”
But in the meantime, Matt is looking forward to wrapping up his tour (and getting one step closer to purchasing that haunted house) before relaxing for the rest of the year.
“I'm currently right in the middle of our European tour right now,” he explained, noting he’ll be across the pond for the next two months. “I'm really looking forward to that those fans have had those tickets for like, I think it will be 16 months after they went on sale. So I'm so excited to meet everybody in every country I've never been to and getting a little bit of rest."
He continued, “We've been on tour doing 40 to 50 shows a month for the past year and a half straight. So I'm looking forward to just being able to sleep, and take it all in enjoy myself.”
